Financial Planning

At Sewell & Wilson Ltd we are often approached by clients seeking guidance, not just with their business affairs but also with their personal financial affairs.

We are pleased to announce that through our affiliation with the Professional Advisory Network (pan) we now have the capability to provide personal financial advice alongside our existing practice. As a member of pan, we have access to proven and reliable financial advisory processes and will be working in partnership with leading local and international financial organisations.

Central to the pan process is the ability to develop future cashflow models that help us measure the impact of your investment and expenditure decisions upon your likely future financial situation. For example, in the illustration below, the yellow bar represents the first year in retirement - the bars to the left of the yellow bar represent the working years prior to retirement, and the bars on the right hand side the anticipated years in retirement.

In the example below, if these people save and earn the anticipated investment returns on their savings then they are likely to run out of income seven years after they retire. Following the financial advisory process we would then be able to recommend alternative strategies to ensure these people have sufficient funds to last them through their retirement years.

In essence, it's all about helping you make informed decisions - taking the guesswork out of investment, expenditure and savings decisions.

We are convinced that this approach will provide you with a more objective, professional and trustworthy basis for personal financial and investment advice. By providing a single professional source for managing business and personal financial services we know that our clients are now even better positioned to create both business and personal wealth.

How is pan different?

The power of the pan approach is that it provides a means of looking at your total financial situation and ‘health’ – rather than just elements thereof – with the aim of defining, and then achieving, your future goals.

We aim to move beyond merely helping you to grow a sound business, to helping you manage the balance between your business, investment and lifestyle assets as you progress through life.

We can then identify the possible ‘gap’ between what you have today and want tomorrow and then develop a clear strategy to help achieve your personal goals for the future.

Based on the information you provide concerning your income, expenditure and savings patterns the pan planning process enables your adviser to model a number of scenarios which test the impact of different decisions you make upon your financial position in retirement. These scenarios enable you to see the impact of the decisions you make on your retirement years. By changing these decisions as appropriate, you can focus your attention on creating the future you want.

What is the financial planning process?

No doubt you’ve heard a lot of talk about the relative merits of various investment vehicles, or of forming a family trust, or of ensuring you are adequately insured. We agree these are important issues. But before you can make decisions at this level, you need a clear understanding of your current situation and where you want to be in the future.

The secret of the pan financial planning process, called Adviser, is the emphasis it places on helping you do just that. Adviser has evolved through 15 years of financial advice experience and is based on international industry best practice. It blends the power of information technology with personal knowledge of your situation to develop a financial strategy designed to meet your unique circumstances and life objectives.

6 Steps to WEALTH CREATION

STEP ONE
Comprehensively documents your current financial situation and begins to identify your future financial needs and objectives. Highlights your personal attitude towards investment ‘risk and return’ as well as any issues that might hinder achievement of your goals.

STEP TWO

Helps you to clearly define your future needs and goals. Enables you to test various scenarios and alternatives – such as saving more, or delaying that new car purchase – to quickly understand the impact these will have on the wealth you are building for the future.

STEP THREE

Works through any problems identified that may prevent you from achieving your goals and creating the future you want. Explores alternative solutions in the areas of investment, asset protection, personal insurance and tax/cash flow management.

STEP FOUR

Pulls together the information and insights from the first three steps into your own, personal financial plan. Identifies an integrated combination of the relevant investment, asset protection, personal insurance and tax/cash flow management strategies to give you choice, action and control.

STEP FIVE
Implements the strategies you decide to go ahead with, as detailed in your financial plan. This may include the establishment of an investment portfolio, asset protection programme, or personal insurance policy.

STEP SIX
Recognises that both your personal circumstances and external events will continue to change and evolve. Puts in place an ongoing process of planning and review to ensure your plan remains relevant to the achievement of your financial and lifestyle goals.

Why do we believe people need financial plan?

The end of the pan financial planning process can be the beginning of a whole new way of looking at what matters to you now and in the future. With a financial plan, you will have clarity regarding the opportunities you can seize for your future as well as some of the issues that you will need to consider in reaching your goals. You will have a clear, documented and credible course of action to pursue. Most importantly, you will have choice regarding what you do and when you do it.

If you choose to do nothing, that is your choice. If you choose to take a more managed approach, then planning for your future can start now.

Because your life is not frozen in time, your plan has to continue to be a living process. Which is why the relationship with your adviser on lifestyle – as well as other matters – is really a lifetime one.

As part of an on-going service we will keep you connected, through formal and informal reports, with how your plan is progressing and what might need to be changed to keep it moving positively to achieve your goals.

There are a number of ways we can maintain the communications with you. Again, just like your financial plan, these can be tailored to you and what you need.
